My Story

The Rose-Face Philosophy

My last name, Ghiulezian, translates to 'Rose-Face.' It took years of engineering intuition to realize that a persistent family trait wasn't just a quirk—it was a biological legacy. This sparked my lifelong obsession with Root Cause Analysis. Whether it’s a family name or a failing MOCVD reactor, I look past the symptoms to find the source.

From Aerospace to Beyond

I entered mechanical engineering to escape a writing class, but I stayed because of SolidWorks and the thrill of the 'Scrappy Prototype.' At Woodward and Spectrolab, I learned that 'good enough' is the enemy of 'fail-safe.' I’ve replaced obsolete toxic gas systems, authored site-wide safety manuals, and built Voron 2.4 printers from scratch—all driven by one question: Does it work, or can it work better?

The Voron 2.4: A Study in SQDC & System Maturity

My undergraduate career was driven by two metrics: Delivery and Cost. I rushed to finish on time and under budget. I met those goals, but the Quality—reflected in my GPA—suffered. The toll on my well-being was a failure of personal Safety and sustainability. I learned early that when you over-prioritize speed, the system eventually breaks.

When I began the Voron 2.4 build, I inverted my philosophy. I decided it would take as long as it took and cost whatever was necessary to achieve High Performance.

This project became my personal masterclass in SQDC:

Safety (S): I refused to compromise on the electrical architecture. When I discovered the thermistor wires were a fatigue-failure point, I didn't 'patch' them; I redesigned the sub-system with fiberglass sleeving to ensure long-term operational safety.

Quality (Q): I moved away from 'good enough.' I spent months troubleshooting gantry-squaring and uneven layer lines because I understood that a machine is only as good as its most neglected tolerance.

Delivery (D): Delivery & Cost (D/C):Delivery (D):By de-prioritizing an arbitrary deadline, I actually built a more sustainable tool. The 'Non-Recurring Engineering' (NRE) I invested ensured that when the printer finally ran, it produced results that were right the first time.
